Spring Time & Your AC Isn't Working

Spring is here and the temperatures have been great! Remember though it is generally not recommended to run an air conditioning unit when the outdoor temperature is 15 degrees Celsius or lower. If you flip your thermostat to cooling and your ac won't start it's because of the low ambient. This is a good thing. It's doing its job protecting your unit. If your ac runs in temperatures under 15 degrees this can lead to issues like freezing coils, thickening refrigerant, and potentially damaging the unit.

Instead of running the AC, consider these alternatives:

  • Ventilation:

If you need to cool the air, opening windows or using a fan can be a more efficient and cost-effective solution than running an air conditioner when it's cool outside.

  • Natural Cooling:

Leveraging natural cooling methods like shading, curtains, and strategically placed fans can help maintain a comfortable indoor temperature without relying on the AC.

If temperatures are above 15 celsius and your air conditioner isn't working properly here's a few things you can check before calling in the pros at Kooler Group:

1. Check the Power Supply

  • Check the circuit breaker or fuse box for any tripped breakers or blown fuses.

  • Verify that the disconnect is turned on (found on the outdoor unit).

2. Inspect the Thermostat

  • Make sure the thermostat is set to "cool" mode.

  • Check the temperature setting to ensure it is lower than the current room temperature.

  • Replace batteries if the thermostat is battery-operated.

3. Clean or Replace Air Filters

  • Check for dirt and debris. Change the filter if due or showing sign of wear.

4. Examine the Outdoor Unit

  • Ensure the outdoor unit is free of debris, such as leaves or dirt.

  • Check that the fan is working and not obstructed.

5. Seek Professional Help

  • If the air conditioner does not work after troubleshooting, call Kooler Group for a service call to diagnose and repair the issue. Regular annual maintenance is also recommended to ensure your unit lasts for years to come. Pricing for a maintenance is currently $149.99.
